Build days 83 - 90 - Nearly normal service resumed!

'Problems with the laptop temporarily prevented me from posting any blogs whilst we were away ... for more info click on Rock 'n' Roll's blog.  In the meantime ...

... we returned from our Midland/Scottish break on Tuesday (build day 86) to find that all the battening inside was complete and Stuart had returned from his week's break
Steve Lambon had fabricated Still Rockin's stainless steel 262 gallon (1189-ltrs) water tank, and ...
... 10-ton of bricks have been delivered for ballast - that's a job for George on Monday!

Wednesday (day 87) we met with Paul who will make up the electrical wiring loom to confirm what power points etc we'd need and these were marked on the inside of the cabin walls together with the positioning of light fittings etc so that he can purchase materials needed and get on with making the appropriate looming.

Stuart spent most of Thursday and Friday ordering in materials and arranging for the foam spray insulation to be done next week and we (George and I) spent those days emptying the last of the contents from Rock n Roll and making her clean and tidy for the handover on Saturday.  I couldn't believe how much 'stuff' we could fit into a narrowboat!

Next week once the ballast is in and the insulation in place, the flooring can be put down, the wiring can go in and then (for me) the real fun bit starts - the fit out, really looking forward to that!

Hi Carol and George,

We couldn't believe how much stuff we had crammed into Skyy over the six years, until we unloaded it last year, where did it all go? Your new boat is looking great, but I'm sure there will be tears when you hand over Rock'n'Roll. Jacquie wouldn't come up with me when I handed over Skyy last June and even I had to admit to wiping a tear away, but just think of all that extra room.

I'm not one to 'look back'. Being an RAF wife for 20 years and moving home 27 times during those years it was always a case of looking forward to the next bit of our life's adventures - and here we are again starting another one … in the caravan! Still Rockin's build is a bit delayed and we think that it will be May before we launch now. So … no tears on the handover but RnR is still moored in the marina until Thursday, perhaps I'll have a lump in my throat as we help Ann and Kev up the 3 locks and wave them away into their future.

I guess you will Carol. I know when I waved NP1 goodbye I did even though I had the boat I knew I needed for the family. Just make sure you have some tissues in your pocket along with your windlass.

Relieved to see George has something solid to hold onto! Sorry to read Molly has been ill. We hope she is feeling her usual perky self soon. The new build is great fun for us to follow and we look forward to saying hello to Ann and Kev somewhere on the cut. Take care you two.

Thanks Jaq. Hope to be in your area mid-April to see the lifting out of Matilda Rose - we'll come and see you then! xx
