Half nine yesterday morning leaving our lovely Dorney Lake mooring ...
... and soon passing the Oakley Court Hotel ...
... to Bray Lock and Weir
Some fantastic properties along here ...
... but like Sue I think this is one is best!
Hotel Boat Tranquil Rose last seen by us when we followed her through Blisworth Tunnel way back in July
Approaching Maidenhead Bridge ...
... where nb No Problem was waiting for us as Bray Lock was too narrow for both boats...
... and we follow them under the ornate bridge into Boulters Lock
... and out again to take yet another picture of the oh so life-like gentleman sitting on his patio!
We introduced Sue and Vic to the secluded moorings on Clivedon Reach where Clivedon Manor stands very impressively high on the hill.
Our usual mooring here was already taken but we soon found another one with No Problem nicely tucked in a hundred yards or so behind us.
A quick lunch onboard Still Rockin’ and then off for a walk up that hill where there are some great walks and lots to see ...
What a brilliant day!

As we reflected on the Lee Navigation today, we said it would an ideal trip for SR. It's designed for wide boats, so everything is set up for them. We've been surprised at how pretty it is, too. The Stort is a different story -- there Re widebeams up here, and the locks are 13ft wide, and we've seen a couple of wide trip boats on the move, but it's incredibly twisty and narrow in places -- very different from the Lee.
Hi Carol, George and not forgetting Molly of course.
Been enjoying your Thames pictures and some have taken us back to a couple of holidays we've had on hire boats in the years before Badger Sett. By the map location on your blog I see that you're around Oxford at the moment. Are you going further up the Thames and then doubling back as we're just past Banbury and heading towards Oxford although it'll be a couple of weeks before we get there. Keep us updated as to your whereabouts in case we're close enough to come and see Still Rockin (and the three of you of course). Keith and Nicky
Thanks Adam, we shall definitely do the Lee next summer, we won’t have time this year as we’ve decided to winter on the GU. You’re doing some miles and locks per day and appear to be having a great time.
Hello you two, great to hear from you!
Currently our plan is to make haste (albeit fairly slowly) to Days Lock and spend 4/5 days there and if time allows we’ll cruise up to Abingdon and then turn round for the return trip back to Teddingon/Brentford probably at the end of September depending on the weather of course. If the rain comes with a vengeance we’ll need to get off the Thames and onto the Grand Union a bit pronto!
We’d love to meet up with you again while we’re in the area and if you’d like to leave your phone number on the blog comments (which I obviously won’t publish) we can stay in touch to try to make it happen. Sooo, see you soon hopefully!
