Sunday (21st June) we were in our usual place on the deck when this gorgeous boat came by - we waved and called to them pointing out that we were Rock 'n' Roll's first owners. We sold her in 2014 to Ann and Kev who then sold her to the current owners in 2019. It was so good to see her again, she still looks perfect. The last time was a very quick glimpse of her exiting Goring Lock in August 2019.
Tuesday (23rd), the day after sanctions were lifted and shops were allowed to open ... we decided that it was time to brave the elements and go into town. We decided that Henley would be our destination as it's in walking distance (although I hadn't realised that it was 5miles from our mooring at Medmenham), so armed with masks, antibac wipes hand sanitiser and a bit nervous we set off ...
crossing the tail gate of Hambleden Lock where two cruisers were navigating the lock on self service and observing the appropriate social distancing. We then walked over the weir bridge for the first time since February just before lockdown.
It was a very hot day as we walked. Temple Island at this time of year would normally be in full Regatta mode but very quiet and peaceful today
The Thames path was not too busy and we were able to avoid passing too close to other walkers and eventually reached Henley. Now for braving the shops ... masks on ... I was going into Waitrose for my favourite yogurt and George was going into Robert Dyas for a few items. All done and dusted without incident and a big sigh of relief it was time to head for home. Whilst walking at Medmenham we'd noticed buses on the Henley-Marlow route were just about empty so we thought that rather than walk home we'd wait at the bus stop and see how full the next bus was ... there was just one person onboard when it arrived and two people got on after we were seated ... so no dramas there either ... another sigh of relief! We felt very pleased and proud of ourselves after our first venture out. We will do it again ... in a week or so's time.
After a very hot day at 8:30 in the evening the meadow looked rather atmospheric as the sun started to dip and ...
George relaxed on the deck after we'd had a really tasty bbq to celebrate getting back out into the world again and getting safely home too.
Dawn the following day at 05:40
and sunset ...
9pm ... amazing!
