Monday (11th) we left SugarPop Cottage in Largs, said our last cheerios to the family and started our journey south. We were going to stop for a couple of hours at our son's house about half way but due to the time and the weather and the fact that George has a rotten cold we decided to do the whole journey in one, with lots of stops for fresh air, drinks and eats.
The roads were wet on the M6 and the spray was not good ...
and there was snow ...
on them there hills!
Very wet as we approach the Knutsford turn-off but as soon as we got through Stoke-on-Trent ...
it was miraculously dry ... as if it hadn't rained at all; the sky was clear and the moon blinding!
We arrived back at Hambleden at about 7pm after being on the road for 8½ hours. The temperature outside was 2° and inside Still Rockin' it was 7° ... a bit chilly! The fire was already set to light and the heating was put on as we emptied the car. We then sat, still in our coats, with a cuppa while the boat warmed up!
Tuesday morning ...
The River Thames is high and the local Kingfisher ...
is taking advantage of this little stream leading into the Thames to the side of our mooring which is usually dry.
It's a good thing that we're on floating pontoons or we'd be in trouble ... the water is up at least 30" (76-cms) ...
and most unusually, the whole of the non-tidal River Thames, from it's source at Lechlade to the tidal Thames at Teddington is on 'Red Boards' and with all the rain throughout the country, it doesn't seem likely to subside any time soon.

Goodness, what weather! I love those hills, but the views are bleak, aren't they? And thank goodness indeed that you're on floating pontoons. 76cms is scary! Stay warm and safe!
