Build day 19

This morning at Lambon Boats ...

The bulkhead separating the engine bay from the cabin is welded in place ...
… and just look at that grin on George’s face ...
… seeing those skin tanks and cross-feed pipe in situ!
From here George and I drove out to Hartlebury Common for a good walk with Molly in the bright sunshine … for some piccies click here.

Build Day 18

The rear bulkhead is being lowered ...
… it separates the engine compartment from the interior of the boat.

Build Day 17

 Rubbing strakes are appearing
These protrusions are usually the first part of the boat to come into contact with anything else and so protect the hull from damage
 Seam welding continues
Access hatch to the bow thruster motor and battery.
We are amazed at the speed that the boat is being progressed … it is just 10 working days (which include 2 half-day Saturdays) since Still Rockin was 2 sheets of flat steel on the floor!

Build day 16

We have a well deck! I can see us now, sitting on comfy chairs in the sunshine sharing a bottle of vino-collapso!
Underneath the deck will be a 177 gallon (786 ltr) fresh water tank, so we should never run out!
Ian is doing the long tedious job of seam welding - he loves it!

Build day 15

The steels for the cabin sides and roof has arrived
… and we have ...

… a bow thruster tube!

Build Day 14

Take a bow!

…  and one of the stern for good measure!
I think that the seemingly quick progress will slow down a little over the next few days as Steve of Lambon Boats will be busy seam welding what is only spot welded at the moment.

Build day 11

It’s a secret!
We were amazed today on our visit to Lambon Boats to see that the bow was very nearly formed - but as it’s ‘work under development’ we’re keeping it a secret until later - so watch this space!
But do you know who is that on the left talking to Stuart of Barn Owl Boats?
It’s Joe, and here is Lesley too; they came to spend the day with us, and what a lovely day it was … after getting their approval of Still Rockin’ they took us to a walk they did many times whilst having Yarwood built ...
… to Hartlebury Common and afterwards ...
… to the White Hart The Bay Horse [edited as per Lesley’s comment on Rock’n’Roll!] for lunch.  What a line up! Not sure who George is laughing with or at, Lesley doesn’t want to show her face and Joe … well… not sure what Joe is thinking! (only joking folks!)
It was a great day in great company!
For more pictures of this lovely day, see Rock ’n’ Roll blog.

Build Days 9 - 10

OMG it’s big!
This is what greeted us this morning … that’s the bow/gunwale ...
… and looking from the stern … the bars are to hold the sides rigid whilst work continues.
The gunwales round the bow will be tidied up as the cabin sides are fitted.
Although the bow has a gentle curve ...
… the superstructure below will be quite sharp.
Widebeam Still Rockin’ viewed from above.
Steve Lambon is doing a great job!

Day 7

Up to the gunwales are on and you can see the floor height now
Approximately 2' of that height will be under the water
Looking from the stern ...
… this is the counter (deck)
A lovely space!
A technical bit has appeared too … the stern gland … this is where the propeller shaft enters the boat.
It’s coming on so quickly!

Day 6

The view of Still Rockin’ through the hanger doors ...
… at Lambon Boats this morning
We couldn’t believe the progress ...
… that Steve has made since our last visit on Friday morning.
And to answer Ray’s question in the comments ...
… of the last posting ...
… the base-plate will be seam welded on both sides as is the norm at Lambon Boats!

Day 3 of Still Rockin'

62’ x 11.5 of steel for the base plate plus the cabin sides and the forklift truck is used as a weight to keep the steels still whilst they’re welded
Steve Lambon is doing what he enjoys so much ….
 … welding ...
… the brace bars to the base plates.
Looking forward to Tuesday - our next visit!

Wednesday, 13 November 2013

It’s arrived and they’ve started ...

…. on WB Still Rockin’ !
The steels have just arrived!
 The base plate
 The cabin sides
Bracing bars
We are sooooo excited!
