Welcome ...

… to my new blog!

For some time now husband George and I have been discussing old age - not that we’re anywhere near that yet!

But … what if … no-one knows what’s around the corner and we’ve decided that we don’t want to leave it too late before considering what we need our future to be should operating lock gates become too challenging!

But … as I say we’re not at that stage yet although we have been preparing ourselves by making the decision to sell our lovely narrowboat which has been our home for nearly 6 years and to have built a wide beam boat which will be our ‘forever’ home and enable us to eventually pull into a marina and live in comfort close to all the amenities that may be necessary.

We have no intention (hopefully not for a long, long time yet) of ceasing to be continuous cruisers although our ditches will become wider.  We shall sorely miss the network of narrow canals and hope that we shall continue to meet our fellow bloggers and friends along the wide canals and rivers of the UK.

We’ve chosen Lambon Boats to design and build the hull and Barn Owl Boats to fit it out.  This partnership has built a number of boats wide and narrow and others besides.  I’m sure you’ll know of Lesley and Joe’s Caxton / Caxton and subsequent tug Yarwood both a Lambon/Barn Owl partnership. [Edit: Caxton is a Reeves/Barn Owl partnership - thanks Adam].

We have been sooo lucky to sell Rock n Roll within 5 days of advertising her and couldn’t have wished for better purchasers - we wish Ann and Kevin a good road when they take over in the spring.

As you will have noticed from the title of this blog that our new boat is called Still Rockin’
Watch this space!

Hi Carol,

All the best for the future, you certainly won't regret your decision to live afloat in luxury during your retirement!!! Takey Tezey!!!

PS: Carol, will you enable RSS feeds on here in Blogger settings? Also, can you put the Blogger Followers gadget on here? The Google + one will only allow other folks on G + to become followers. Believe me, I had this problem and reverted back to the Blogger Followers gadget!

Added to my blog roll!

(By the way, Caxton has a Reeves shell rather than a Lambon one)

Wishing you lots of luck with your new venture - we are looking forward to following the build and fit out with great interest. Hopefully we will see you at some point in the future. Great name, by the way.

Thank you both - it’s good to know that you are still checking on your boating cronies in the UK as we are with you! Best regards. xx

Hi Heather, thanks for your best wishes. Re RSS - I know nothing about this I don’t think it’s something I’ve enabled on the Rock n Roll blog and I will be adding the followers gadget very soon.

Added to my blog reads! No problem with RSS for me - it seems to be working fine for my reader.
Good luck with it and what a great name!
Out of curiosity, can I ask what made you decide to have a new one built rather than go second hand?

Thank you both! Like when we were originally looking for a narrowboat we couldn’t find anything that we (or ‘I’ really) could live on so we decided to have one built. There are certain things I can’t live with like the galley and saloon all in one space. We’d been looking on the for sale websites for about 12 months but couldn’t find anything that I could live with for the rest of my days - so this one will be exactly right!

Dinner (dance) at your place next time we meet then! Have you settled on this name or is it just a blog name?
Jill, Matilda Rose - can't alter Graham's name off of this blog!

Good luck to you both - we will watch the build with interest. Barn Owl Boats is almost round the corner from us, so when you are visiting, let us know and come and have a coffee. Jennie & Chris, nb Tentatrice

Looking forward the build, and you sound so excited!

Kevin in East Anglia with Avalon has his galley and saloon in one space, I don't know if you have seen the interior of his.. Might be of interest his own build of his widebeam.. That is a fabulous boat..

Good luck with this blog Carol, I have added it to my list too!

Definitely Jill - we’ll set up the disco lights on the rear deck too! Still Rockin’ will be the name of the boat. Hope to see you in the not too distant future - what are you winter plans?

Carol Palin said...

Thank you both - a cuppa tea would be lovely next time we’re down there. We’re at Stone at the moment - RnR is going into dry dock this weekend for re-blacking and we’ll be cruising down to Droitwich Marina week commencing 21st October to wait out the build, so maybe we’ll be able to meet up quite soon.

We are Sue, we are! I followed Kevin’s build of Avalon and was greatly impressed with his handiwork it certainly looks beautiful. I have never liked my cooking area in the same space as the living area so although lovely Avalon would not suit me at all. What are your winter plans this year?

It looks really big, it'll look great. Can't wait to see the finished item. See you soon. xxx

Hi Sandra, yes - looking forward to seeing you too - you’ll have to come and see us as Droitwich when the build is under way!
