St Paul's taken from Paternoster Square
Having lunch in Paternoster Square
The cathedral church of St St Paul's built by Sir Christopher Wren stands on the site of the medieval cathedral destroyed by the great fire of London in 1666. The outlines of these two cathedrals and their different alignments are displayed here. The adjacent garden is laid out on the site of the former chapter house.

There has been a cottage on this site for about 200 years and was originally the home of the Controller of Tower Wharf, known as Wharfinger. Until the 19th century, the dockside was very busy. Military supplies such as gunpowder, weapons etc were shipped to and from the Tower and stored under the Wharfinger’s supervision.

It was a great day out Marilyn. x
DeleteI always read to the end and very much enjoy your blog.. It looked an epic day out in London and we enjoyed the great photos love D&R
ReplyDeleteThank you both. x
DeleteLooks like you had a great day.
ReplyDeleteDepending how we get on next summer trailing Naughty-Cal to Scotland, the following summer we may well trail her down onto the Thames for a couple of weeks. Get dropped in somewhere upstream, cruise down the Thames have a few days in London and then spend a few days on the coast before being hauled out and taken back to Lincoln by road.
That sounds like a plan Rachel, we may meet up yet!
DeleteOne day we will.
DeleteLooking forward to the guided tour of Still Rocking.
We’ll also look forward to that.
DeleteFantastic pictures Carol. How did Molly cope?
ReplyDeleteThanks Geoff, so long as Molly can see us usually walking between us both she’s fine. Having said that, with all the walking we’ve done this past few days, her legs are slightly shorter now! Hope you manage to start cruising soon. Love to you both. xx
DeleteWow, that was tiring to read! feel like I've been round London with you, thank you for the tour. Caroline
ReplyDeleteYou’re very welcome, thank you for joining us.
DeleteSuperb! Wonderful photographs! Your pictures have reminded me of various London visits in the past (escorting school parties at the Tower of London, taking a granddaughter there too a few years ago, waterbus rides) - and of our own Limehouse - Brentford cruise last summer on nb Cleddau!
ReplyDeleteI've not seen a photo or a reference to the Brunel statue before - that came as a surprise!
Looking forward to more posts from London...
Best wishes,
Sue /Boatwif /nb Cleddau
Glad you enjoyed the tour, happy cruising this summer. Kind regards. x
DeleteThe photos bring back memories for last year Carol!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom, will we see you both down south this summer?
DeleteWe hope to get to London this year and visit the places we didnt see in 2012 , getting a mooring is a bit of a worry , perhaps booking will be the answer , did you manage it easily ? Loving your pics of London
ReplyDeleteSharon & Richard ( nb oakapple ) v
Hi Sharon, email C&RT - Enquiries.London@canalrivertrust.org.uk - you can only book the moorings this way and can only book for the current month or on the last day of the current month for the following month. It’s a good mooring, great for seeing all that’s here. Maybe we’ll see you on the Thames? x
DeleteNow that was a fantastic tour! I loved it! And your photos are wonderful! London is my home town really. I grew up there so it is lovely to see photos of it even though much has changed along the river.
ReplyDeleteThanks Vallypee, I’m glad you enjoyed coming along with us to see your home town. More to come too!
