The Gravity Grand Prix ...

Sunday (1st September) was another warm day and we're going out for the day to Cookham Dean ... to watch the Gravity Races.  Cookham Dean is about a 40 minutes walk from Marsh Meadow and we set out at about 11:45.  We thought we'd found a short cut but when we were walking back to Still Rockin' later realised that wasn't at all!

These paintings caught our eye, they are beautifully
created by artist
Jenna Green in pencil and pastel.
Read all about Jenna HERE
Except for a short push at the start the homemade, non-powered vehicles entered into the Gravity Grand Prix are steered downhill cheered on by the noisy crowds ...
just a few of the entries here ...

It wasn't easy to catch a photo of them as they past by us!
There was lots of entertainment for the children on the field and the usual beer, bbq and burger stands.  We chose to eat at this Sri Lankan food stall where we had a chicken and a beef curry with rice and veg and it was absolutely delicious, not too spicy and not too fruity ... Prema holds her pop-up restaurants around the Marlow/Cookham area so we may take advantage of that during our winter mooring this year.

After lunch during the racing interlude we walked up the hill to the start of the racecourse ...

The lovely sculpting on this building caught my eye dated 1935 ...
the sign above the door reads Sawfords and looks as if it was originally a car showroom
A young rock and roll band were performing at the top of the hill, they are apparently looking for a vocalist to join them.  They were very good.

As we started to walk back down the hill the racing cars were being towed back up for the afternoon session of racing.
The Gravity Grand Prix was supporting the Air Ambulance charity

Back at the finish line at the bottom of the hill is the pub ...

We had a great time today, getting out and about and have promised ourselves that we will do this sort of thing more often when we're moored up for a few days.

What a fabulous day out you had and such a great fun event. Was there a winner? A lot of work had gone into creating the 'vehicles'. Jennie

Hi Jennie,
We didn't stay for the second race but assume that the winner would have the best overall time for both races and I know there was a prize for the 'best' entry which I think was judged by some young (under15) volunteers. It was a good day

Excellent! We like watching the Red Bull Soap Box races on TV, never been to a live race though!
